I’ve recently acquired some nifty things, which made me pretty happy. Here’s a list:
- I got the very nifty Red Dwarf RPG A.I. Screen, which is a tri-fold piece of nifty cardboard, with a big nifty picture of the nifty Norman Lovett, printed in nifty Canada. Inside this nifty item there are useful tables that will make for considerably less leafing through the book during play. Also included is the nifty Extra Bits Book, which is really more of a Extra Bits Booklet, but still very nifty, with new nifty player species (though none so nifty as turtle) and other nifty tidbits.
- I got a nifty Samsung Digimax Digital Camera, which enables me to take pictures of nifty things and put them on my computer or right here on my blog. It has allowed me to replace my old header image with a nifty new one that I took myself. To illustrate how this nifty camera can be used to take pictures of nifty things, here’s a picture of my new Red Dwarf RPG A.I. Screen:

All right, that’s not a very nifty list, with only two items on it, but still, they were two nifty items!
For nifty bonus points, count how many times I used the word “nifty” in this post!

All right, I didn’t want to say this in the post itself, and ruin the fun, but writing this spoiled my good mood. Nifty though that picture is, I had to use center-tags to get it center. Center-tags! Now that’s just not right! Because of this, the page no longer validates.
Loki, you had someone comment on your journal that they knew css well, d’you think you could ask how I should handle this problem?

…I don’t get what you’re asking about, but I’ll check.
(Including the title? 22)

that was me ;)
I’ll assume that you know the basics of CSS and that you’ll be able to add the following class in your style sheet, right?
basically, you’ll just add a new class. to do so, add the following line of code to your style sheet:
.center {text-align: center;}
and then in your HTML, where your image is insert the following:
(I hope the above tags show up)
hope that helps :)
March 20th, 2006 at 23:20
and as it turns out, the tags did not show up. here is that HTML code again, just replace the parentheses by the proper symbols.
(p class=”center”)(img src=”http://obdormio.com/images/aiscreen.jpg” alt=”Red Dwarf A.I. Screen” /)(/p)
March 20th, 2006 at 23:27
Yeah, see that seemed to me like the obvious solution as well! I tried adding it to the stylesheet (only I called it .imgcenter) and apply the class to both a p-tag around the image and the image tag itself, but with no results! Frustrating to no end!
… yet, now it works! Huh. I guess I must have made some mistake the first time. Well, thanks for the help!

hmm, that is odd. check your syntax, make sure you didn’t make any typos. sometimes it doesn’t work for a stupid little thing like that and it takes you forever to figure it out.
also, try inserting the code in your style sheet after the other defined classes (rather than at the begining or end of the style sheet). this doesn’t often help, but it could be worth a shot.
*thinks* you could also try something trickier like:
#topnav img {text-align: center;}
or
.post-content img {text-align: center;}
or variations of the two.
hope that helps a little. good luck figureing it out. CSS is a pain in the ass.
oh, and also? “nifty” was used 21 times in your post. 22 if you count the title. I’m glad you think Canada is nifty too.

ETA: I’m too slow and didn’t see the edit. glad it works :)

Yep, it works, and I’m glad too. Nifty bonus point to the both of you for counting, and extra points to Sarah for helping.

Hey, I was the one who had to spend five whole seconds on asking Sarah to help! Credit where credit is due, man! ;-)

Nifty Lovett sure is norman.
I mean…
Norman Lovett sure is nifty.
Congratulations, this is a great list of happy things that should make you happy. I look forward to seeing you use the nifty AI screen in-game.
